Happy Anniversary to me!

I can officially announce that come the New Year I will have made it a year as a Nursing Recruitment Consultant at Cpl Healthcare, Happy Anniversary to me!

I can’t say it has been an easy year but boy have I learnt a lot. Having been away from the world of recruitment for a few years I was very green when it came to words such as Jobscience, Boolean string searches, social media, linked In.....I know I can’t believe it either because now my working world revolves around such things. I was lucky in Cpl Healthcare to be given such support within my role. Often you are just give a computer and a phone and told recruit and you just get on with it, building a desk, a client base and candidate base. Yes that is essentially what I had to do but Cpl Healthcare provided me with extensive training on the market I was recruiting for, how to perfect the sales process, how and where to find candidates and how to use our fantastic database. Although I was faced with the daunting task of recruiting for an industry I knew nothing about, I felt somewhat well capable and prepared for the task ahead.

It’s been a good year, not the best year I could have had but a good year! I’ve experienced the highs and lows every recruiter goes through (how had I forgotten) and I’ve had my moments of sheer frustration, but isn’t that what recruitment is all about – the will to go on, the drive to find that perfect candidate, to nail that big client and trying to make your  fees higher and higher each month. It doesn’t always work out that way but you keep trying. When I first started I was told your desk is like a mini business, the more you put into it (activity) the more you get out of it (interviews and eventually placements). You need to balance your time on all aspects of the business – sourcing, business development, submittals and networking which can help grow a successful and profitable business, aka a successful desk. I have taken this advice on board and I think this year as well as learning a lot I have begun to build a strong desk which in turn will benefit me to make more fees in the New Year.

For now the Christmas wind down has started and festive cheer is in the air. Thank you to all at Cpl Healthcare especially the Nursing Team who have supported me throughout my first year and Happy Christmas to you all. One successful year done and hopefully many more to come.....here’s to the New Year!
