Senior Hospital Pharmacist – Dublin 8

Cpl Healthcare in partnership with a leading Mental Health Service in Dublin 8 are currently recruiting for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist

The successful applicant will work with the service in Dublin 8 which provides community and outpatient care through its clinics and day patient services through its wellness and recovery centre. It provides inpatient care through its three approved centres which have a combined total of 307 beds.

Applicants for this position must:

  • Be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland as a pharmacist
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ post registration experience as a hospital based pharmacist

The following experience is desirable:

  • Clinical experience in a mental health organisation
  • A diploma or MSc in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy

Hours of Work:

  • The standard working week applying to the post is 35 hours        


  • Assisting in the provision and further development of the clinical pharmacy service
  • Supervising and supplying drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items following hospital guidelines including preparing medicines for service users going on therapeutic leave.
  • Advising medical and nursing staff on the safe, effective and economical use of medicines
  • Attendance at MDT meetings
  • Service user medication education
  • Clinical audit
  • Policy and protocol development and committee attendance
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of service users and staff members at all times
  • Maintaining approved standards of quality at pharmacy and ward levels
  • Referring to and complying with legal, transit and security requirements, as well as those of physical and chemical stability in the economical purchase, storage and supply of items
  • Maintaining records of adherence to standards required in the purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing of drugs/pharmaceuticals in an area which is secure and accessible by authorised personnel only
  • Controlling stock using the computer based system
  • Ensuring that all waste, such as out of date drugs, is disposed of appropriately
  • Fostering open lines of communication both within the department and with other departments in the hospital
  • Undertaking continuous education to ensure knowledge of and familiarity with new developments/methods related to the medical field

 Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland as a pharmacist
  • Hold a degree or higher qualification in pharmacy
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ post registration experience as a hospital based pharmacist
  • Clinical experience in a mental health organisation (desirable)
  • A diploma or MSc in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy  (desirable)

  • Salary for the position will be dependent on the appointee’s experience and based on Senior Pharmacist salary scale
