Location: Dublin

Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Description: The purpose of this role is to work as part of the Aftercare Team providing support and settlement services to young people leaving care or who are in the process of settling into a new home.

 

What you will do:

  • Work within the framework of the overall objectives and values of the organisation.
  • Undertake work with an agreed number of individuals in the community and to provide appropriate supports.
  • Implement the policies and procedures of the project, the organisation, and the National Aftercare Policy (Tusla).
  • Prepare young people for leaving care by developing an Aftercare Plan and implementing the plan jointly with the young person’s social worker.
  • Prepare young people gradually and holistically, paying attention to their practical, self-care needs, health, budgeting, and domestic skills, as well as their psychosocial needs.
  • Assist young people in finding suitable accommodation.
  • Ensure that young people leaving care receive their full income entitlements, if applicable.
  • Inform young people leaving care of the available services.
  • Maximise the education, training and employment outcomes for young people leaving care.
  • Monitor the progress of young people who have left care.
  • Make contact with local services and relevant community groups in different areas relevant to the needs of the Young Person.
  • Establish effective links as is appropriate between the organisation and such groups.
  • Develop resource materials with the assistance of other team members, on services in local areas.
  • Liaise with and inform the Manager on a regular basis, of issues arising from work with individual cases.
  • Engage in supervision sessions on a regular basis with the Manager.
  • Keep accurate records and statistics, and provide regular reports, as requested.
  • Work in close liaison and co-operation with other organisational Services and the relevant Tusla Aftercare Managers.
  • Participate in relevant training and development courses and in project evaluation.
  • Attend and contribute to Team, Section, Divisional and Agency meetings as required.
  • Undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from time to time in consultation with the Manager, Section Manager or Divisional Head of Services.
  • Be vigilant to any Health, Safety and Welfare risks in the workplace and bring any concerns to the attention of your line manager or Health & Safety Representative.

 

What you will need:

  • Extensive relevant experience working with young people in care or marginalised young people.
  • Third level qualification in social care or related field.
  • Proven experience of key-working clients or individual casework.
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour.
  • Own car and full clean drivers’ licence is desirable, but not essential

 

Be able to demonstrate:

  • Good understanding of the issues affecting young people leaving care and in aftercare.
  • Flexibility.
  • Understanding of Child Protection.
